Its May 9th 2015, I'm outside a lot, disability, I go to my remote site, twice a day. I have 2 other locations that I visit, that have had Martins, previous years, nothing... I haven't seen any, or heard any flying over as vocal as they are... The last 2 years for Martins here in MI, slim and nothing at all...

Martin Colony History: Started with Amish copy of Trendsetter 12 room house, added Trio Grandpa with expanded rooms, and North Star 8. Taking Trendsetter down this spring and adding gourd rack.

Keep the faith! I saw three martins on May 1, but nothing since. It's early, especially for those with few if any martins in the area. I'm fairly confident mine will be back in a few weeks.
2020 - A pair of SY birds with three nice chicks. Lots of visitors all year long.
2015-2019 - A few lookers.
2014 - ASY male and SY female fledged four chicks.
2013 - Several visitors but none stayed to nest.
2012 - Lots of visitors all season long. We had a pair of sys but no chicks survived.
2011 - New location - A few visitors
2010 - First year – Poor house location.

Martin Colony History: Trendsetter-8. Set up in 2014 at my summer cottage, a beautiful natural inland lake in N.E. Indiana's Amish Country. T-8 is on cleared land behind my pole barn and adjacent to a farmer's field

2015: Had several flyovers in early June with 1 dedicated SYM visitor who visited each day for well over a month. He brought by a few PM "parades", with 8-12 PM's who would visit all at once, but soon leave. (Added 2 gourds to bottom of the T-8). We discovered a large (Amish) colony apx. 3/4 mile South of our T-8. We think this will eventually be our "feeder" colony.

2016: Put up a Trio G'Pa lakeside. Overall, not as much interest as 2015, likely because of our vacation to Gulf Shores, AL. in early June.

2017: Finally switched over to wheat straw. Success!! One nesting pair. Fledged 4!
2018: Zilch.
2019: Slow start, nothing observed by mid June. Wet, cold Spring a factor??
2020: Barely any sightings.
2021: Several observed high in the sky, eating. No interest so far!

Hi Zag,

I was at the lake (near Sturgis, MI.) last weekend w/my son. We played a PM Chatter CD - A LOT! I saw a few swallows over the lake one morning, but I suspect (now) that they were bank swallows or cliff swallows. I'm heading back mid-week to ramp up our recruitment drive, and maybe give out some more HOSP scuba lessons.

Are you playing the dawn song or the chatter cd? Just wondering. Just by reading all of the "No Vacancy" posts from members here will tell you that this is our year.

I'm just a stone throw away from Port Huron (lake Huron and my 18 unit house last week had nothing. this weekend there are between 12-16 birds at it. (tough to count when they fly all over the place) The house I built for the neighbour down the beach has nothing yet. Season is still early, the ice just got off the lakes about 3 weeks weeks ago. I figure with the warmth we just experienced the martins will be back within the next week or so.

At home in London, I haven't seen anything yet and am playing the dawn song every morning trying to attract them there.
