I've been a landlord for 2 years. I have 2 breeding Paris about to fle0dge their broods. My question is I have about 10 subadults(I think), they hang around from dawn till dusk constantly landing&taking off&
Buzzing my housing. They never go in any of my compartments& show no sign of wanting to nest.I assume they roost elsewhere, because I've never seen them enter any of my compartments.Anyone's thoughts or comments would be helpful.I'm new to posting here, but have read the forum for years&it probably has led to my successful small colony.
subbie question
Welcome to the forum. I can't be sure without a photo but it sounds to me like they may not be Subbies, they might be a HYs (this years hatchlings). The males from neighboring colonies will take their youngsters off and show them other colonies in which some of them may come back to next year. If they look thinner or lighter underneath that's what they may be .
If they have been there for sometime they just might be Subbies that don't have time for nesting in your locality.
Usually an adult male will accompany the HYs for a few days then they may come back on their own .

Thanks for your input. All of these birds have about the same wingspan as the adults that r nesting. They seem to be paired up.all but one is light on the underside, one is solid dark like a sy or adult. If they are mapping my location,it might be busy next season.thanks again
