I think I solved my mystery why my colony hasn't returned these last 2 seasons. While taking a sparrow out of a trio house trap this a morning I looked up and again there are 2 martins circling the house then they dive bomb me and circle some more then leave. I drop the sparrow down on the ground in the bag and I look from the martin house to the tree line and all of a sudden those trees are close and they have grown. I have 2 catalpa trees that are about 50 feet away and they have grown tremendously these last few years. This is the 4th or 5th time I have had martins circle the house and if I am close they dive at me and screech like it is there house, one time there were 6 martins circling. I wonder if these are birds that were raised here and are a part of my old colony. The last time I had martins I had around 20 pair in 2 houses. I will be cutting trees soon.

You will probably solve the problem.

Those HOSP sure need to be controled though, as your doing. That will also bring good for your colony which might return for the right conditions as well as no pesky, killing HOSP at your site.

Good luck
