Glad you like it, Matt - it always takes time to get used to things after a change, and the PMCA's entire website has undergone some renovations - the info portion, the online shop, and the forum. We hope everyone will enjoy exploring things and will agree that the updates are just what was needed to help us reach and educate more people.

I was surprised when I found the "new" Forum! I have been checking it out and I agree with Matt, it looks real good. I appreciate the PMCA updating the Forum!

It'll take some getting used to. I hope there's a link to "new posts since last visit" that I just haven't found yet. -- John
Major kudos to everyone involved in rolling out the PMCA's new web presence.Louise Chambers wrote:Glad you like it, Matt - it always takes time to get used to things after a change, and the PMCA's entire website has undergone some renovations - the info portion, the online shop, and the forum. Working in IT, I've seen what it takes on the back end to make such major changes, and to have a successful "cut-over" to the new site.
I'm going to be spending some time this weekend poking around the site, getting used to the nice, new look.

Looks great! Lots of hard work behind the scenes for a long time. This all to "Ensure the Future of Purple Martins". The PMCA is here to stay.
I manage 2 public sites, and one at home, for a total of 172 cavities. Board Member / Non Profit PMCA.

- Martin Colony History: Taking care of 11 active public colonies and trying to start two more in northwestern PA. Also attempting to restart another one in southwestern PA, in Collier Township's Hilltop Park. In 2017, not sure what happened but the ASY male returned and then a couple of weeks later he was gone. It could have been weather related. No other birds showed up. I had a starling nesting at the Public site that I had trouble getting rid of.
In 2018, we fledged 629 martins at all of the sites.
To all,
So far, the new website looks good! Like it was stated, it will take some time to get used to. Yes, a lot of work has gone into the new look and we appreciate it very much.

- Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.
It'll take time for everyone to figure out the new site.
"Quick Links" in the top left corner will take you to several locations. However I don't see any "Members List or Private Messaging". Perhaps they haven't added them yet?
The white background is a tad bright for my eyes. Would be nice if they could tone it down just a little. Lavander or a off white color would work.
We're just coming out of a major heatwave here in central PA with several days in the 90's & very humid. A cold front just moved in, temps dropped 30 degrees! & has now brought much needed rain. More rain today & maybe tomorrow then 5-6 days of nice weather.
I'm hoping all my Chimeny Swifts are gone by Monday. We have a guy coming to do repairs to the top of our chimney. We've seen some still flying around in our area, but I don't know if they are mine or not.

Not all forum features are live yet - I just want to learn the basics of posting photos and such first, get that under my belt. It's different! This updated forum software is much more secure, and the entire PMCA website will mesh better now. We'll share more info on using new features and getting around in coming days.

It may work out to be better so lets give it a try. I want to stress that I too would like to see the feature of "posts since last visit" as ToyinPa suggested. I hate to reread the posts that I already have read.

Use the Quick links at the top of the page to select what you want to view from the list there - options include your own posts, new posts (on the forum, new posts will have red lines for text vs grey for posts you've read), plus options to view unread posts, etc. I am learning along with all of you and will share tips I come across. The FAQ explains some things, too.

Glad to see the forum updated. Just having the ability to PM and such will make it worth the pain of learning something new. Thanks for the continued work.
