In my 24 years of landlording, this is the latest my PMs have EVER showed up. Wed. 2/17, a couple, one ASY Male with one ASY Female, circled my back yard homes/gourds, and then flew North. Thurs, 2/18 a ASY male showed up at my front yard Homes/gourds right before Sunset, but did not land.
This Morning, Fri. 2/19, he showed up and was really nervous, but finally landed on my House #1
. He took off for the day, so I'll see if he shows up this evening. I've always had a "scout" arrived from Jan.28-Feb.4. I think my last Scout for the past couple of years has finally had it, poor guy, he was so tough, arrived early, & faced any cold spells. This "New Scout" seems really young & not sure of himself.
I'm still waiting for my Emailed (?) Scout Report password, no such luck,
, but if anyone from PMCA wants to put my info in the report, Please feel free to do so. Good luck EVERYONE!!!

I don't know about a password for the scout report. I had a hard time with that site at first but finally got it on my phone (Samsung android) and then got it on my IPad (Apple). I think it was fixed. This is the latest for me in Georgetown also. It's frustrating but I know they are coming.

Thanks Carolyn, ( Love that Eagle!) I know of another landlord S.E of me who said his PMs & another landlord south of him, are late also. As of today I still have the 3, in the past I would have 7-9 pair by 2/14. Oh well, I'll take 3 all year over None !

Hey yall,
Good to see you Anthony and RR.
A few showed up around I'll say 02/19, maybe 02/18 so it looks to be the same time frame in our region. Last night was about 9 to 10 so they're trickling back in little at a time which has been the norm past years. Earliest arrival date I think I remember was maybe 02/12 one year.
Always keeping an eye on the temps in Feb., I don't mind if they show up later just incase a Feb freeze hits. let them show up after that.. hahaha
LOVE that rain last night.
Always Thank you Lord for the sending water.

Howdy Folks!
No action here yet, but last year I had mostly 1-2 year-old birds. My first 2-yr old female scout showed last year on March 22nd. I'm trying to be patient but that ain't working too good.
I put tunnels on 4 super gourds and added owl guards to all 12 gourds over the winter. Pine straw straight from Bastrop country is in every gourd. I'll throw a small handful of oak leaves on top after they start falling. Then let the games begin!
I've had the gourd rack lowered with all the 30-40 mph winds yesterday and today. I'll raise later today and get ready for the winds to turn back from the south to help our purple friends navigate their way home.
Good luck everyone!

Two birds showed-up this morning, male and female. Female went to gourd #3 the first time she landed, same gourd as my founding female from 2 years ago. I'll bet that's her, already got a boyfriend, getting ready!!! They're about 1 month earlier this year. Probably been here for a few days, I can't image that they could have flown against the 30+ mph North wind we've had for the last two days.
Had lots of SY birds here last year, so they should keep coming in over the next month.
Hey! I'm pumped!

Hi, Anthony--
Glad you're PMs are coming back. I still haven't seen my first one this year. But, in fairness, I've been pretty busy & haven't been watching too closely. Expect them any day.
Best wishes

Had a ASY male sitting on gourd rack this morning. I've now seen 3 birds on the gourd rack in last 2 days. Looks like they are starting to filter in.
Anthony, are more of your birds back now? I was just now able to post a scout report. I had similar issues like you did.
Winds are turning to from the South, so there should be another influx on the way just in time for the weekend.
Hoping a great martin season for all!

Hey Anthony, You have such an old colony, so "they" should know "they" are supposed to be on time! You are right about the rain, altho the forecast changes every time I look at it. My friend Ed in NB posted his first sighting on 2/27, and the next day I had two circling our gourds in the late evening. I couldn't tell if they stayed. But the next morning I could see "her" sitting in the #1 Excluder gourd with her head in the doorway. Then yesterday evening at 6pm, #3 arrived and sat on the porch of his gourd from last year making a racket until I came outside and opened the door. Then he went right in for the night. These three are very early; the last four years our martins arrived March 12-15. So what the heck? They arrive when they feel like it, right? Meanwhile, this morning I saw two strange looking birds sitting on the perches. I grabbed the binocs for a look and what do I see? Two brown-headed cowbirds! Haven't seen any of them around here since 2005-07. What is it about putting those gourds up that acts like a huge magnet???
