Congratulations, Stan. Glad you have one back. I am retired now, so will have more time to watch the martins this season. Hope the weather will continue to stay mild.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

That's great, Stan! You are my report besides the scout report. Ha.

Last night a second ASY showed up right about dark. We have had strong winds the past few days. We will have storms and rain all week. There should be ample supply of bugs.

Several more arrived this evening. The first ASY female showed this evening but did not roost. I expect to see her tomorrow morning. I have some migrants roosting here as well. I can always tell which ones they are. They are sneaky and not much vocalization. The temps will be good for the coming days with rain and bugs.

Up to 12 martins, only one female. Poor girl. They won't leave her alone. Funny to watch their antics.

Roughly where in Tulsa are you located Stan? I just saw my first one last Sunday. He has come in to roost every evening but he's still all alone. By the way, did you post on the scout report? You're usually about the first Tulsa spotter I notice but I didn't see you this year.

Thanks everyone. I have close to 15 Martin's now. 4 Asy females came in. Marley, I am located 2 blocks south of the new Gathering place park off riverside drive. I have a combination of Trios Super gourds and Troyers.

Update: approx. 30-35 Martin's back now with a couple pair already building. This morning I witnessed a failed hawk attack and usually when this happens the Martin's stay away most of the day but today is different the females are fighting big time and staying in their units protecting them from new arriving females I suppose. They just sit in the entrances making a "chur chur chur"
call. I hadn't had any sparrows until yesterday I trapped seven. The weather has been beautiful. Happy Easter everyone!

Mick, I am awful at keeping records but I believe I had between 35 and 40 pair, the numbers I think are in line with what I had last year at this time. One of my pioneer houses had 5 pairs last year and all fledged young. Not one Martin has shown interest in that house so they must not be here yet. I will update when more show.

Update: more Martin's keep arriving, however I never see them except early in the morning and right before dark. The hawk pressure is very high and hoping some off these hawks migrate out a here. Not able to enjoy my Martin's is a real bummer.
