I have so many back they are uncountable...I'm sure 100 or more. I'm in NE Texas. Seems like you should have some by now. They were slow getting here so you probably just need to give them more time. I saw more come in today....

Hang in there! They'll show up!

Apundt,

I only had 14 birds last year. Up until two days ago I only had 1-2 birds hanging around. Now there are about 10. I'm sure that many of your birds will return since you had so many pairs last year. Although I'm sure you must be very frustrated, this must just be some type of fluke event. Maybe most of your birds were older last year and might not return. But even if that were the case, the younger ones will eventually make it home, and you will be rewarded for your patience.

Hang in there, it won't be long. Southern winds are blowing birds your way!

I had 10-12 hanging around, overnighting. The last 2 days, very few. Not sure what happened. Surely the cold weather here didn't drive them farther north. I'm at a loss.

Martin Colony History: Put up the colony in 2015 and had a mean and nasty fight with the sparrows, yet one pair stayed and five fledged.

They should be at your place any day now, must have been that storm that blew through that set them back a few days :???:

AP,
I hope you get an influx of birds soon. We have a lot yet our neighbor across the lake from us and a couple of others nearby that usually have martins by now are like you. They haven't had any so far.
Our hummingbirds were late this year so I'm wondering if our crazy TX weather has something to do with it all. We were concerned by the below freezing temp night before last. It got down to 28 deg. here. But a nest check yesterday showed everything to be OK and the gang flew in last night.
Unfortunately we've had some hawk attacks. They are so smart and sneaky. One came out of nowhere and grabbed a Martin when two of them were tangled up together fighting. He flew right by my husband's head with what appeared to be a Martin clutched in his feet. It is such a helpless and sad feeling when that happens :-(. I know it's nature's way, but I'd rather not see it with my own eyes.
As someone else said, hang in there. I expect you'll see some soon. But I do know how worried one can get when they are late.
Keep us updated.
