I have 2 jumpers, and believe it or not, I'm still scratching my head on this one. These guys are catching small bugs in the grass and the adults are feeding them on the ground as well. My yard is fenced in and I am not worried about stray cats. I will leave them be since I am not sure which hole they are from. They can fly from one side of yard to the other. I have fledged several birds this year but the heat index is high.

Martin Colony History: 2016 Informed landlord now Have 2 pair returning from 2015 That is a miracle. Hoping for a very successful year, sparrow population on decline.
First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows

That is amazing Stan. Good luck with them.
FYI I have an 8 ft privacy fence & there are 2 stray cats who climb over it on a regular basis. I think they dumped the Blaine sparrow trap & it landed upside down & released one of the 2 HOSP in it. So BOLO [be on the look out] for cats.

Okie, you are welcome to see my Martin colony, I wish you had let me know earlier. I have to go out of town for a short trip to OKC. They will be all fledged by the time I get back. They are already thinning out now. The season is winding down. But we still have the roost.

Are they still roosting in downtown Tulsa?? I saw a you tube video about that but it was filmed several years ago. Would still like to see your setup. And you are welcome to see my tiny set up. But you have to wait until I get the gourd rack up. Which will be hopefully up by the time you return.
Enjoy those fledglings.... I am

Pretty amazing considering EVERYTHING you read says martins will not feed fledglings on the ground :|

I also have yet another myth buster!. I have an ASY male that lost his mate or she left not sure. This guy never let's a good dragonfly go to waste. If the bug is dropped when feeding he simply drops to the ground picks up the bug and flies to the gourd to feed the brood. This is unusual.
