Hello everyone, thought i would try to report how things are going at our colony this season.
We have or had 106 active nests with 542 eggs 500 hatched ironically of those 42 that didnt hatch 14 were destroyed by SY males.
Of those 500 that hatched 450 have fledged.
There are 13 nests that have not fledged yet. Those are ranging in age from 26 to 7 days old.
To date we have had 0 babies lost! First egg of the season was laid april 29 the last on june 29.
So far it has been our best season ever :!: Hope this all makes sense.
also thought id mention we only had 4 empty cavities this season.

Great report, Lynn. Looks like you will still have a few martins hanging out in August. Hope the rest of the young make it in all this heat.

Thanks Rodger, hope you are having a great season as well. This season has been fairly easy, plenty of insects, good weather and mites were not much of an issue and mostly ASY birds makes it a lot less work!
Good luck next year as well.

Hi Penny and Lynn,
Those are some great numbers. You two do a great job at landlording, making sure the martins are safe and healthy. This years looks to be extremely busy at my end with my sister, so next year I will stop on by and we can have a good chat.

Thanks Dave, sorry on the late response been having internet problems. Hope you have had a great season too. Would love to hear more end of the years stats from other Iowa landlords. Its been great weather this year for us, no wet nests, no major storms and fledging went great. Sorry about your sister having health issues and yes we will have to visit each others sites next year.
