Yeah...only 125 days or so for me, seems like an eternity. Oh well, we used the post that has a tree swallow box and the Purple Martin Sanctuary sign on it to hang some Christmas cheer.

Very creative Henry! It looks like millo from the field and some fox tail!! Love it!
I'm not looking forward to the martins this year. I will be ignoring them big time when they come! LOL

Have had visitor every year 2014-24.
Two large trees removed in fall 2024 and moved T-14 to a more open location.
2025- 1 SY pair. Fledged 2.
2026- no pairs. One daily SYM here daily. Named him Riggs!
I often count the days till April 1st, when the martins will return to Central PA. Even knowing that since i'm a member in good standing with the 'Wannabe Club', it will be more realistic for me to see my first martin 3 weeks later. But watching the scout report helps the days go faster.
Bellefonte PA
2014, 1st year-a few lookers, no nests
2015-23. Visitors each year. But no pairs.
2024- most active year. 2-4 SY male’s hang out most days.
2025, 1 SY pair. 2 eggs, 2 fledged!! Other martins visited daily.
Still eliminating starlings and sparrows.

We all count the days until they get "home"...it is just part of the addiction. It only gets worse as the days get closer.
Roger/Sharon...close, it is Staghorn Sumac seed heads, white pine, yew branches, some wild rose hips, some ornamental grass seed heads, and a really neat Austrian Pine that stays yellow most of the year. Essentially stuff we trim off every year at this time, turn into Christmas stuff and hand out to friends, family, some really nice old people etc. gives us something to do because it's dark at five PM :(

Hey Henry,
Where did you get that "Purple Martin Sanctuary" sign.? I like that with the 1 flying Bird on it.!! I don't think the PMCA has a sign like that.?.?

SM , I consider the 2008 to be the start of my colony, I spent a lot of time outside with the birds and caring for them and I believe the birds knew this was the place to be. I did add a few racks as time went on. Another factor is that the area around me has numerous colonies, I'm trying to get them all mapped in a 15 mile radius and finding the job overwhelmingSMJohnson wrote:Ray G. : Reviewed your profile and noticed slow increase in your Martin pairs from

Jose,
I don't know exactly where you're at in Fla., but I'm thinking you should be getting your Bird's sometime in January. I have other Landlord friends in Fla. and they tell me their first Bird's come in about the middle of January.
I should get my 1st Bird's about the middle of March.!
Like you - I can't hardly wait.!!!

Rodger, I live in Central Florida. For the past two seasons our scout has arrived mid February. We are eager to get started with our new set-up this season! My wife and I have been working hard preparing the site for the better for our Martins. She still thinks I'm loco!
We're wishing everyone the best of luck this season!

In Marco Island, FL. First birds on Jan 9th, however so far Dec has been rather on the warm side and so I am keeping a sharp eye out for late Dec to start the new season off. This year have 4 gourd racks 72 gourds, plus also a new house with 4 gourds. Last season was very good but crows getting to be more of an issue each season. Now using fence chargers to keep the snakes out with 100% success. Have in past used netting, pole guards but always seems one will slip by. Not so with the chargers. GL to everyone for the coming season when our little friends come back... Fred
