After several winters in the elements my perch rods are starting to look in poor shape. I am planning on replacing them this year with new ones. Being a very visual person I thought it would be best to model them in 3D first before actually building them. I will have three rods going through a center post at 60 degrees. The hitch is i don't know if I like them closer spaced (2" on center) or at a larger spacing (6" on center). I have attached some pictures to start the conversation and get some opinions from you all.
I have my perch rods on a 2 inch spacing and the martins really enjoy them. They probably would enjoy them just as much on a 6 inch spacing. They just like to perch on top of the pole.
2" spacing should work fine. I bought some 6' Fiberglas rods years ago from a hardware store and they have weathered the elements really well. They are raw Fiberglas and require a couple of coats of paint so they will not splinter over time.
