PURPLE MARTINS HAVE ARRIVED

GOOD MORNING FROM AMITE LA. WE HAD THE FIRST ARRIVAL IN JAN ON THE 15 th. 1 LONELY BIRD,MALE,ADULT,WAITED A WEEK FOR HIS LADY TO ARRIVE AND I BET HE WAS ONE LONELY YOUNG MAN. NOW AS OF MARCH 20,WE HAVE A TOTAL OF 12 BIRDS,MALES AND FEMALES. NOT SURE YET IF WE WILL HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT AS OUR LAST YEAR FLOCK, BUT LIVING IN HOPE TO SEE THEM ALL BACK AGAIN.

- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
Congratulations! You’ll have a lot of fun this summer!

I AM LOOKING SO FORWARD TO ALL OF MY BABIES RETURNING. LAST YEAR WAS MY FIRST TIME (OUR FIRST TIME) PUTTING ONE UP. WE ARE 72 AND 74 YEARS OLD. WE HAD SO MANY OF THEM, NO ONE BELIEVED WE COULD HAVE THAT MANY FOR A FIRST TIMEtaxidermy lady wrote:Congratulations! You’ll have a lot of fun this summer!

- Martin Colony History: Colony established May 20, 2017 after three unsuccessful years. Persistent and aggressive Tree Swallows plagued the site, but beyond learning - and practicing - to control them, was the return in 2017 of a 2016-SY-M previously unable to find a mate. As a handsome ASY-M, he brought along two females and a swagger that soon put the Tree Swallow issue to rest. As the anchor pair, he and his mate hatched all six of their eggs into fat and healthy babies into what settled in to be a three-pair, flourishing new colony with up to 11 birds total, including 3 SY-M trouble makers.
Holy cow! 
That is one big bunch of Martins in your two downloaded pictures! How many did you have? Unbelievable for a first year.
A couple years ago we drove thru Louisiana and all the way to the coast at Vermillion Bay. Saw Martins and Martin houses everywhere!
Took me four seasons to get a nesting pair, and then only three pair. But still thrilled, and anxiously awaiting for a change in this really cold weather and snow up here in Ohio . . . truly Martin killing this late in the season.

Wow - those 2 pictures are a dream come true for many of us wanna- be landlords. Even when I had PMs, I never had THAT many! Talk about being green with envy! It's what we all strive for and many of us never know success - but we don't give up. Congratulations and good luck with another successful season.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT. WE JUST LOVE WATCHING THEM ALL.
