- Martin Colony History: Got my first SY pair in 2017. Fledged 1, but died due to wing entrapment. 2018- changed all entrances and got one ASY pair. Fledged 3. 2019- Male returned. Disappeared after 12 days. Suspect hawk. No nesting pairs. 2020- 1 pair. Fledged 3. 2021- 12 pairs fledged 43.. 2022- 22pairs. 100 eggs .fledged74 2024–. 42 pairs, fledged186– 2025- 56 pairs, fledged 233
That’s a good sign. Theyre interested. In my experience, limited as it is, when they come back a couple times a day, they are definitely looking to hang around. Best of luck! Rob

- Martin Colony History: have not had martins for last 20 yrs. trying to re establish a colony
2018 1 asy pair fledged 2
Correction, they are back this morning and it's an asy pair, I didn't get a good look yesterday. being this late in the season I would think this pair was displaced from a nearby colony for some reason, hoping they stay and start anew here!!

2017 SY pair made nest and laid 2 eggs but lost female male moved on
I have the same thing going on the last couple of days in Kansas City.
ASY pair visited this morning and again this late afternoon. The male was very interested but the female was not as willing. There was what I'm guessing was an SY male hanging around with them.

Same here,,,, in Southeastern, Ohio... There is a male and from time to time a female flying around, landing and looking into the gourds on the rack.. She just can’t seem to be able to make up her mind.. May be tomorrow she will..Heavy_D wrote:I have the same thing going on the last couple of days in Kansas City.

Since my earlier post the ASY pair was back without the 3rd wheel SY male. They were in and out of gourds for about 15 minutes. He was vocalizing a lot toward her from the gourds.
They departed for the night so they don't appear to be staying the night on site just yet. Hopefully tomorrow they'll commit.

- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
They are liking something about your site! Are you drawing them in with the dawnsong? Or are they showing up on their own! Good luck!
