I’m not sure when they first arrived, but they were here regularly most of April.
I discovered 5 eggs on May 5th and there were six a couple days later.
On May 24, I had six gelatinous babies in the nest.
On June 11 around 8am, I watched the first fledgling fly... rootin tootin good flying too! The parents flew off with #1, but they returned periodically as the others exited the nest. By noon all six had left the nest.
I didn’t see a bird for 8 days, then the parents returned to the box and hung around for about 5 days... there were visitors several times a day, the visitors lit on the house occasionally, but never lingered long.
In the last week, I’ve had a single Martin occasionally lite on the house briefly, but doesn’t enter and only stays for a few minutes.
The cove of the lake is full of Martins high in the air and work lower, close to the water, in the mornings and early evenings.
This morning, I could hear that many Martins were close by but couldn’t see them in the skies... Then I saw about thirty birds lift off from across the cove from the treetops.
They came and went from the treetops for several hours, but they seem to have vanished again.
