You have assembled a complete 16 foot lone star gourd rack, hung 9 gourds, drilled through aluminum rods and installed wire...in your living room.
You stare at highway ball park lights because they look like gourd racks
You go out of your way to be friendly with the neighbors because YOUR birds depend on it
You have ever had cricket legs and antenna in your sink drain trap
You have ever used your wifes furniture polish to slick up the predator guards...and caught heck for it

FINALLY....
You might be a purple neck if you plan your family vacations around Martin Season!

Just some humor before the Forum lights up this season; I stumbled on the topic a while ago, it was pretty good.
Regards,
Tom

Years ago there was a list like this one. Funny stuff. I will add mine:
1.) " When you drive by an open flyway zone in a yard and your first thought is, that person needs to put up a martin house."
2.) EVERY TIME you walk by your window, you look outside for sparrows near your martin housing and you instinctively grab for your pellet gun. If you see a sparrow your blood pressure rises and you start speaking in tongues.
ImageMite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

2021......to be seen.
24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.

I think I’ve turned into a purple neck....newly re- sighted in pellet gun and 20ga. Sittin at back door. We don’t have starling or chee chee problems but we do see about one or two of each early on ,then no more . The neighbor keeps that in check and says there has never been more than that and then that’s it.

Anthony, I liked that one. We have a few members in our Iowa organization that routinely do the reconditioning of old martin housing. They redo the old housing and supply them to wanna be landlords here in Iowa. It is part of our mission statement. It is just funny to me to see it in the purple neck thread. lol.
