2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.

Glynn B - You have some suspect about this sighting? Why? I'm curious too. I brought this subject up with the folks in Erie last year and was satisfied with the response. Seems like they ask the right questions to see if the sighting is as real and true as can be determined.
Looks like the 1st sighting was the real deal!

I suspected improper ID because of the first Louisiana posters non existing ID history and because of the area. Take a look at the second Louisiana posted siting, now she has years of ID history, she’s legit!

It's good to see some sightings being listed ! I am close to Hester, and put my poles up today. I have to put the pine needles in the compartments, then the houses will go up. I was kinda waiting to see one or two birds before I put the houses up.

Thanks joe . I hope those few that have arrived in La. found em a warm spot because we’ve got a drop in temp coming for Friday and Saturday along with some more rain. It should all be short lived though so they should fair ok. I live right in the center of the state and we (my Martin friends)usually see the first birds end of Jan.-1st week of February. Depending on the cold or lack of. I’m new to the Martin scene but fairly knowledable due to interest in biology, ornithology, self study on martins and paying close attention to all the knowledgeable people on this forum and their helpful advice. Thanks again for your follow up. David

It is surprising that the reports in Louisiana this year, are not even close to the reports in 2018.. I counted 33 reports from 1/8 to 1/31 in 2018.. There must be a large wave of Purple Marins getting ready to hit Louisiana coast soon, to get, their reports back up to last years standards...

Thanks Dave,I promise ya, I’ll take all the rootin and luck I can get. ! I’d like to see 20-30 Pr established in the next three years. There is an old sight about a mile away at the sheriffs dept training area. The houses (wooden) have become run down and some of the poles tilted a bit,I think I’m going to go over there and offer my services towards gettin all that usable for the birds again. There are about six or seven houses along the bank the bank of a 1/4 mile long oxbow. Ideal conditions. Maybe a half mile at most from the red river. I think I’m gonna look into it ,if that can get going again it would potentially raise my numbers at my own sight at home.

PMDavid -- Your are probably right.. "The more Martins in the air near you", will help your chances of getting started.. Helping where the old houses are at the Sheriffs Dept is a great idea.. Most people will except help, if presented in the right way.. Do your best.. It will work out. That's "funny" that you mentioned the word "OXBOW" bend in the river. Because that is the name of the Golf Course where I put up some houses to replace their old wooden houses.. It's my satellite site "Oxbow Golf Course" . We had great success their last year.. Good Luck
