I love when the tree swallows arrive. They are so pretty and like the purples they are very tame
2015 69 pairs 418 eggs 396 fledged
2019 I have 148 openings now
2016 100 pairs 600 babies fledged added another t-14 and have 126 openings now
2015 Jun 24 360 babies and 58 eggs also found one that had died
2017 632 babies 11died and 20 were killed by hawks
2015 74 pairs and 9 eggs 5/14
2010 3pairss

2018 651 babies 5 hawk kills 11 floater kills 25 died in houses and 610 fledged

2014 80 pairs 283 babies 282 fledged one died

I haven't seen a tree swallow yet. I just saw my first bluebird yesterday - altho my neighbors have seen them for a couple weeks already. I guess I have to get outside more. :)

I have decided, in regards to beauty and flight, TS and PM are both 1A and 1B for my favorite bird. The TS are just so much fun to watch. They are playful and acrobatic and so vocal. I'm up to three pair of TS right now that have taken to boxes. I still have the one pair who believe they are martins and always hang around them but never bother the gourds. Two of the three pair have nested in the same two boxes for at least 3 years.

One of my guilty confessions is that I really like tree swallows. They can be incredibly cute, and goofy. They usually try to nest in my bluebird houses and are comical in their efforts. Last fall before migration we had a murmuration right over our house - there were maybe a thousand birds, and they came as close as about 10 feet. It lasted an hour or so and was quite something. Just like scuba diving into a school of baitfish.
