Manage 7 different colonies in Colby Kansas.
Definitely a few more starting to make it home. I think we’re up to six at my main colony. Probably close to 6-8 at the other big colony. Then the other colonies are definitely starting to have some a activity. Been a little slow for them.

Looks good Kyler. I sighted my first PM this past Saturday it was a female. She hung around for a little bit and then a couple males showed up later that day. I've had 3 males since but haven't seen the female again. She must have been passing through.

Martin landlord since 2003. Currently offering 162 plastic gourds with tunnels, all with Conley II entrances with the Lewis modification. I have 24 Supergourds and the rest are Troyer Horizontals.

Nice to hear from you again! You can tell it’s getting to be Martin season again here we are discussing when there going to arrive! I believe I told you last year that I thought my colony got hit by a 747 jet but they came back right after that, but I sure hope it warms up real fast because it is dam cold here the last 2 nights wind chill - 22 and the long range doesn’t look all that promising. Oh and by the way my martins are trained! Not for crickets I flip them grasshoppers, I tried crickets and they grabbed them and then spit them out!

Hey Fuzz, that's fantastic! Good to know you can keep them alive. After I had mine trained, I put the leftovers on an elevated tray. They soon found them. After I ran out of Crickets, microwaved eggs were the next trick. I had to flip them to get them started, and as before left the leftovers on the tray. Not too long and they had that figured out too. They now have a messenger that swoops at me every time I come out of the deck. He'll even come at me when I am standing in my kitchen and looking through the doors. They let me know when the are hungry, amazing birds. I am hoping my messenger makes it back again. Have a great season and let us know how its going.

When the martins arrived back here in the last 2 years that I have been a landlord the weather has been fairly warm and they were able to look after themselves, but every year is different from the next and maybe this year might be one that I will have to feed them. We live in a farming community where grasshoppers are abundant and are easy to collect and freeze for that purpose to feed the martins in the event of a cold spring, crickets are scarce and can only be purchased from pet stores. I know what you mean by them swooping at you I have a garden right beside my houses and when the babies hatch they scare the you know what out of you! Anyway I will let you know when and if they return and I wish you a good season and lots of enjoyment with your birds this year.
