Hello everyone. I was wondering if any of you have experienced wing entrapment with the Conley II plates?
Thank you

.... Good Question ... I have Conley II plates on 24 Trio House Doors and have not had any Wing Entrapment yet. I would like to figure out a way to put Wing Entrapment make of foam on the inside of the doors. But so far I have not had any Wing Entrapment yet in three years...

Thanks Dave. I just bought a Troyer T14, to replace the pine one I made ten years ago. They only offered the Conley II or round holes, not sure why anybody would offer round holes these days. I started my colony with Clinger entrances, and have never had a breach, I did add the entrapment plastic piece they sell somewhere, not sure where I found them, $.99 a piece. I have 14 new Clinger entrances that I might modify to fit this house, I’m just not sure. The Conley entrance does have a much cleaner look. Thanks for the reply.

I also just bought a Troyer T-14. I removed the Conley entrances and added clinger tunnels from S&K. I can’t wait to put it up this weekend.

I have Conley II plates on all my cavities and I have never had a wing enrapment in 20 years. I do now have the Conley II with the anti wing entrapment guards.
ImageMite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

Do they make a guard for the Conley?

Yes.
I have Conley II entrances with anti-wing guards already installed. I have the Troyer Conley II entrances with anti-wing guard with tunnels and a plate to attach to the T14 house. Just to assist you here is the summary:

Troyer Tunnel with Collar (#TTC)
Features:
To use the Troyer Collar drill a three-inch hole into any type of martin house; wood, vinyl, aluminum with a flat surface
Screw or rivet into place (screws and rivets not provided).
There are 8 screw holes per collar
The Tunnels are UV protected, made from polyethylene.
The Conley II Troyer Tunnel features a wing entrapment guard and wide porches with terrific traction.
Also available with a 2-inch round hole. No wing entrapment guard in round holed tunnels.
Troyer Tunnels have reinforcements under the porch and each tunnel has a traction tread installed.
Trap compatible.
Available in the Starling-resistant Conley II Entrance.
Tunnel is assembled on to the collar
ImageMite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.

Thanks for all the great information. Has anyone had a starling get through a plate yet?

I have only had one breech of a Conley II. I set a tunnel trap and get rid of him the same day. From time to time, especially coming right out of winter in the north, a skinny startling might get through. I figure I have had thousands of starlings on my property over all the years and only one got in. If you ever have a breach you will know it because once a starling gets into a cavity it won't just leave.

It’ll leave my house for neighborhood cat!!!

I’m gonna give them a try. I have my clingers if I have issues. I don’t have any tunnels. The Conley plates sure do give the doors a clean look. I also have eight gourds going on the house.

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.

At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

I never have. Now all of my Conley II's have the Lewis Modification as smaller starlings were squeezing in.

Martin Colony History: I have been exposed to purple martin sounds in utero when my mother went out to get my father away from his martin colony.
I played around the martin colony every summer and watched as my father maintained his colony. In the late 50's until the 70's he did not notice European Starlings in south Texas.
When old enough, I helped maintain his colony. My primary task was eliminating English House Sparrows with a 1956 Benjamin 317 .177 air rifle.
When I settled into my own home, I started my first colony with an original Trio Castle and Trio Grandpa. When I moved again, I did not put up any martin houses. Frustration with European Starlings in the Southeast US was overwhelming.
Found PMCA Forum and learned about modern enlarged compartments and SREHs.
Inherited my father's last martin house, a Trio Grandma, modified it to modern specifications and have had good results since then.

Like Carlton, I have never had wing entrapments with the Conley II entrances. But then, all of the Conley II entrances have the Lewis Modification so I don't have to worry about European Starling breaches.
After all these years of advocating the Lewis Modification, I am still waiting for anyone who has a properly installed, full Lewis Modification to Conley II entrance to have any ES (European Starling) breaches or rejection of the entrance by Purple Martins.
Mr. Lewis, have you had anyone notify you of ES breaches or wing entrapments?

I have 2 Trendsetter 8 houses both have SREH entrances and have wing entrapment guards but I've had birds get wing trapped. Could I attach the Conley ll entrances to the outside of the current SREH entrances?
