2019 6 pair -21fledged
2020 18 pair -60 fledged
2021......to be seen.
24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.
Well it seems my bird count is slowly climbing! It seems that my attempts to count is telling me something around 30-33 birds . I can’t be sure it’s such a flurry when they all dive in,and goog luck trying to count em all swirling around overhead just prior to coming in also. But I do think I’m right around last years count or close. Can someone take a stab at how much longer I can look for new arrivals?

My colony has 12 birds now. With three houses, they have room to spread out.

At this point all the birds I see seem to be ASY birds . I was thinking I remember last season SY birds arriving all the way into and beyond the middle of April. I should’ve had more gourds done. I have 32. We’ll just have to wing it this year and I’ll have another satellite rack for next season and that’ll give a count of 48,that’s enough. I had like 16-18 or last season so the 32 should do it for this year.

PM,
When they are in their routine tonight take a picture of them all and count them in the picture. You should be able to get the whole area of the sky and you can count the black dots if that what it comes down to.
I've seen biologists who study geese do this.

Good idea whippy. Some of em just seem to do their own thing . Some are in resting before the main flurry.some evenings you see em all and some not. I’ll try that in the next few days if I can catch em when they all seem to be out at the same time. So if I’ve got 4-6 weeks left for arrivals and I would expect these to bring in more I may have a butt load of birds ! Thanks whipper for that prediction you made!
