I saw my first adult male Martin around mid day today. He flew in and landed on the one of the gourds. He was flying around and landing on the power lines for around an hour not sure if he stayed the night or not. Very excited to see them again. I had between 25 & 30 pair last year and really hoping that it goes up this year. Last year the pair numbers tripled. Hope everyone a great season. God bless. JHCox

I predict there will be a good number of martins to follow your first arrival. Given the timing I believe the northern birds have missed the deep freeze we had here in Texas. They either missed it because their migration starts later than our southern birds and/or they take the eastern route via Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.

I look forward to reading continued progress.

Good luck to you.

2021......to be seen.
24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.

Good luck jh......best of wishes for ya

DonDon just keep playing the Dawn song and put some decoys out. Put a little mud on the entrance of your Martin cavities. Make sure there are clear fly ways and no trees in the way. They’ll show up. If took me three years to get my first nesting pair. Good luck

I have 4 racks that can hold up to 24 each. 3 that hold 8 each and a house that has 6 rooms. So if my maths is right that 126 cavities if I can get those all filled I’ll be good with that. I would think that there would be another big wave of Martins after the bad storms in the Tennessee valley move out. So fingers crossed. Have a great season everyone.

I would love to if for one it ever stops raining here in East Tennessee and two if I can remember how to post a picture on here. It’s been a long time since I tried to post a picture. A refresher on how to do it would be great if someone wouldn’t mind post how to do it. My setup is a mix of BO9s , super gourds, and troyer horizontal gourds and one modified S&K barn. Unfortunately the barn has never been used by any Martin’s. Several house barrels have attempted use it but they were removed.

JH,

Pictures post pretty easy when they are 200kb or below. Also. You must have text in the post or the picture will not show up.

The first thing to do is resize the photo.

When the photo is open on your computer, click on the "tools" tab and then select "resize" from the drop down menu. There will be a couple of boxes with numbers in them so on the top box, change the number to 7 or 8. It should automatically adjust all the other boxes. Then save it.

Once it's been resized, come back to the forum and hit "post reply" as you have done a million times.

Below the text box of your post hit the "attachments" tab. Then select "add files". Once you click on add files, it'll open up your file list and you can select the photo from there. Either double click it or hit the "open" tab. Once the photo is added, there will be a green highlight just under the attachments tab.

Before you hit submit, preview your message and photo. If all is good hit submit.

Hope that helps.

Sorry guys I’ll attempt to do the pictures again another day. Didn’t realize how bad they were before posting them. 100% rain tomorrow so it will be Friday before I can re take the. My Martin count is roughly 14 to 18. I hope in a few more days after the rain tomorrow and the major drop in temperatures Thursday and Friday that my numbers Will steadily increase. I hope the same for everyone.
