Hello All
Visited my Amish friend yesterday. He now has 15 Birds.
Went up to my Amish friends to tell the pole was free for him to pick up.
He said wait a minuet. Want to show you something. He went his house and brought out a little plastic bag.
There was 2 long objects that resembled 2 long pine needles. They were 8 1/2 inches long and they had a slight V long ways. .
The 2 pieces was held together with part of the bids body. He said the little bird came in. And couldn't get in the bird house. He noticed thes two things hanging dow. He let his bird house down and removed the two objects from the bird.
He ask me if I thought the bird carried them from Brazil.
Tomorrow I will take a picture of them.
Still no birds. [ Later
Martin Colony History: 2018 1 lone nut and lots of visitors 2019 6 pair -21fledged 2020 18 pair -60 fledged 2021......to be seen. 24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around 2-12 compartment trio houses Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long! Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.
Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.
Is it metal? If not is it plant, dried pine needles?
They look like some type of pine needle. There are 2 types of pine trees that grow in Mexico with long needles. The needles grow 7-15 inches in length & in clusters of 5. The needles are used to weave baskets.
The trees are called: pinus michoacana & pinus montesume
It's possible this bird flew into the tree & got stabbed by a set of needles that got stuck in his body or pine sap caused it to stick & then it dried fast.

I looked it up on the net.
Very possible this is it. The 2 pieces I felt had a slight V indentation length wise. [ Later
yeah wow, looks like the needles! Think Toy has that one sewn up. Get it? Sorry.
That would speak to the route that bird took. I trust your going to keep it?
