Anyone have data on how long a female gestates after successful copulation? I have 2 pair of SY birds actively building nests ( one already lined with green leaves) since June 1st and I am curious what the earliest date I could expect an egg to be laid.

14 to 16 days after last egg is laid, they start to hatch. She lays 1 egg a day. 28 to 32 days til fledgling.

Actual gestation period after copulation is vague. Not very much known data on that.

In general, birds can lay a fertilized egg from 1 day up to 15 days after successful copulation. Under normal environmental conditions a fertilized egg will remain viable for at least 15 days after being laid.

Well, I saw my first martin on May 30th and today during nest checks I found a nest with 2 eggs, so that must put the gestation period at 11-12 days.
