Martin Colony History: 2021--12 pairs a mix of ASY and SY, 32 fledged!

I have had 2 babies die from this heat and martins moving from compartments is there anything I can do to help?

Best you can do is find a way to provide some shade on your housing. Have a look at the other heat thread and you'll see what i did . No jumpers yet after doing that. My point on that is the martins don't mind a change as long as you don't change the orientation of the entrances. If you can expand on your venting do that. A sample of my venting is in that same thread.

Shade and venting will be the best you can do.

I had 7 jumpers I found. 6 are in the holding cage for a bit to cool off and one was dead. I'll put the 6 back in some gourds for the night hoping the parents will feed them.

I switched over to the Troyers horizontal gourds. Installed two 3/4” ells in the back and one in the cap.

Haven’t had any early jumpers since and it’s been years.

Had one yesterday that was knocked off his perch at the mouth of the gourd and one went down in the lake. Got him back and sat him on a fence to dry out and in an hour he was up and flying.

I'll try to put shades...now we have had 3 babies die in the nest, and 3 eggs nonviable. :(

Yeah it's so sad...But we had 1 fledge today and we got to see it!(made sure it wasn't to young because it flew all the way across the street into an oak tree with the parents folllowing it) So some good news!
