More Photos Of Martins Socializing Around My Colony

The purple martin season is nearly over in northwest Louisiana, but I still have many martins that are visiting my new colony. There have been over 200 martins at times during the mornings though the numbers are declining now. Here are some photos of martins ?hanging out? in my colony.

That is a nice bunch of photos, Steve. I am glad you had a far better season than you expected, what if any, are your plans for next year?

2015 One Pair of subbies came and stayed a few nits but got chased away by Bluebirds and Tree swallows. :-(
2017 0ne pair of subbies nested and fledged 4 young
2018 Tree Swallows AGAIN chased away any martins that wanted to nest

I have been taking many photos of my new martin colony! I will post more photos of martins using my gourds that maximize vertical/horizontal depth when I submit my final martin report for 2005. I plan to expand my colony next season from 130 cavities to around 200. This first season I attracted 81 pairs. There are so MANY martins in this area of northwest Louisiana and my location is perfect for them. I believe I can attract between 100 and 150 pairs the second season. So, it is possible that Bob and I will have around 300 pairs of martins between us for 2006. Time will tell!
