Great pic and I am willing to bet that if they find your setup that comfortable you will have some back next year!

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Those are some mighty handsome Purple Martins. They're probably heading down to the roost on (is it) Lake Pontchartrain?

They appear to be seriously investigating the cavities in your housing. Yep, they'll be back...

Good luck and best wishes for success next season!
Sincerely,
Laverne

Great picture, Mike. Did you have martins at your place this year, or have you started trying to attract them? I like the looks of your housing!
Hope you'll get them back next year,

This was my first year and I fledged 25 young ones. I have already started preparing for next year. I bought a complete S&K gourd rack and pole system. I have two houses but I am changing to gourds and houses. Those people at S&K really helped me out and gave me a great deal on what I wanted.

Congratulaitions on your fledglings! That must be a wondrous thing for the first time! ANd probably every time from now on!

I have just raised my gourds for the first time, hoping that martins headed south will see us and remember us for next spring.

Happy fall!
