Does anyone know of a purple martin roost in the greater Houston area? All of our martins have fledged. (Pasadena, TX).

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Hello, Linda.

Yes, there is a huge premigratory roost at Sharpstown Mall. If you go up to the PMCA Home button, then go to Research, then Premigratory roosts, you will find a map of the USA with green dots for all roosts reported. Click on a dot to see the report and directions.

Here is a link to a thread regarding this roost. There is another a couple of pages over in the Forum with photos.

Hi Linda -

Darill & I plan to go to the roost tonight after the service at Lakewood if weather permits.

Here is the location that Emil Pampell gave in an earlier post: "The roost is between Bellaire Blvd, the Jewelry Exchange Center, and the Foleys parking lot, about 1 block from Hwy 59."

Hope this helps!
