I posted the story of the finding of the Wheeler Dam roost in the roost section, Darryl was so excited when he called he could hardly talk like Therman trying to describe the Dale Hollow Roost it is unbeleavable even after you see it. if you can go see one you should do it, it is a sight to behold.

All the news papers and tv stations in Decatur, Huntsville, Florence and the Alabama Wildlife government web site were sent a description of the river roost and a little about martins and giving the PMCA as the source of information on martins. It will be interesting to see if or how many do anything with it and how much interest it will create in martins attraction and management, we had one tv station come to the the roost at Decatur last year.

There are a bunch of martins, about 40, all over my rack this morning after seeing only a few for several days.

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Ah, yes, fashmore - a premigratory roost will leave you speechless...

I am so glad you and the others in your area have found one and were lucky enough to see it.

The Purple Martins are incredible!!
