We did another nest check this afternoon. Here are the results:
17 nests with eggs
1 pair nest building- but no eggs yet ( I believe there will be some by next week)
Several SY males without mates
82 eggs - plus a female was on one nest and I didn't bother her to see how many eggs she had
Today's nest check results!!!

Wow. Didn't you have only 1 or 2 pairs last year? Outstanding job!

Thanks everyone.
Spencer,
We only had one pair last year. We have attracted lots of martins. About 30 minutes ago, I was looking through my binochors and watching two hawks. The next thing I knew the hawk had a black colored bird (probably a martin because I had seen two or three flying in that area) in its clutches and was flying away with the bird. This happened between my house and my neighbors house, so either she or I have one less martin. It is so sad.
With all this going on, I don't know how many adults will survive.

Birdy Girl,
Congratulations on your great progress and success with your colony. To grow from one pair to everything you have now is amazing
Now, I just read about the hawk attack and am very sorry to hear this and am still hoping that it was not a martin the hawk carried away. Hope the hawk(s) will stay away so you can enjoy the great work you did with your colony and your great love for the martins
Best wishes for the reast of this season
