Check out the satellite view to observe a colony site attributes like open space and near by water. Find out where your martins my have fledged.
It is quick and easy. You can view the map without a google account. To add your site you must sign in or open a free account which is very quick and easy.

We are on the Maurice River. The Maurice is brackish and tidal. It meets the Delaware bay about three miles down at East Point, NJ. The area is remote and consists of dense marshland and swamp. Dragonflies abound.
Swallows arrive in mid August and finish nesting mid July. There is a large annual roost in mid August upriver a few miles at Mauricetown.

I tried it and it works. At first I was a little lost, but then after clicking on one of the locaitons, I noticed the text box on the left side of the page (left of the map), and the edit button was at the top right of this box. Pretty cool stuff!
If everybody did this, I could take a few road trips to check out other local colonies I didn't know existed.

The EDIT button is just to the right of the words "PURPLE Martin colonies".
I noticed that there is a vertical scroll bar here also. It is possible that you need to scroll to the top to reveal the EDIT button.

I tried all three browsers (firefox, ie, google chrome) and no edit button.

If you can't find the EDIT button it's because you have to have a google account...Go to gmail and create a free email account. Then log on and try the purple martin colony map...The edit button should be as everyone says...
This is a great tool to know how many colonies are around us, we could mark roosts, etc...
Only down side is, I'm sure people are grumbling about creating another email account...Just do it!...lol

I couldn't find edit key either until I went to the maps key and registered with google. When I went back to the site given, there it was

When I scroll up the highest thing on the site is "Save to My Maps" next to the "Purple Martin Colonies". I tried to click on one of the blue tabs but this did not give me any choice I could use to enter my site. John

I too had to login before it would let me enter my site. I also entered my mentee's sites

- Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.
I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.
At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.
At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.
