The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory for South East Michigan for tonight. Possible heavy snow.

We just can't seem to get rid of winter this year.

I hope everyone has plenty of crickets!

My son and I trained our PM's last year and we got them to take a few last night. We should have enough crickets to get them through the next few days. We are suppose to have cold and rain until Thursday.

I've only seen 1 female and two ASY males so far at my colony. I hope the rest hold south until the weather breaks again!

We're having the same problem in South Dakota! COLD,and WET,and WWIINNDDYY! I have been trying to fling mealworms to them but to no avail! They keep flying to far away from me to catch on! I think I'm just going to try to put some in each compartment. Don't know what else to do! This is their 4th day tomorrow!

Down here in the fort wayne Indiana the wind has been blowing around 30 mph with gust of 40 chilly and showers.
I have 2000 crickets that I ordered and put in the freezer . I taught mine to take crickets and eggs last year But it is strange that they act like they like the eggs better I will sometimes flip 5 crickets to them and they just look at them but when I flip the eggs they all seem to jump after them.
Anyone have this happen or know why this would be . Last year they seem to like the crickets better .

Not sure Jim, but consider yourself lucky. I think most would rather prepare eggs when needed instead of having to order and freeze crickets.

Hello Allen, We have the same going on here. No snow, but rain and cold for the next several days. It's been a tough spring, if it's not rain, it's wind 25 mph or more.
We have more than 50 back and most have been eating from the BB for the past couple day's.
They have been flying, but i don't think they are getting much to eat. It's been so windy the past several day's with temp's around 40 to 55, they can't be finding much.
Hopefully, most who have bird's back have them trained to feed. It could be rough for several more day's.
Good luck to all who have them back.

The weather has been hard on martins this year. The weather just north of me in SE michigan is calling for snow. I need to set up a BB for them is there a good way to get them to start using a BB?.
I can tell when the martins are hungry as they fly over to me then fly back to the top of the gourd rack,

I flung a few crickets this morning and they did take a few. I hope they each got some.

To my suprise I had another female show up since Saturday and I now have two pair.

I have not tried the eggs yet. I think I might try that this afternoon.

The snow was so heavy a while ago, the entrances to the houses on the north-east side of the rack were covered. I lowered the rack to clean them off, three martins rode almost half-way down before leaving the gourds. There had been a guard sitting on top before I started lowering too.

They are all bask sitting on top now, so I am going to try and fling some more crickets!

I flung around a hundred crickets to four PM's today.

Not may reached the ground!

I did see some feeding from the new tray I installed on top of the gourd rack where I placed some crickets this afternoon after the snow melted.

Then of all things another ASY male arrived this evening.

I guess they are fat, cold, and happy!

I get home from work and 3 more! I'm still flinging mealworms and eggs, but,,,they fly to far to catch on yet! Doggone rain! I don't do it to long, don't want them out in the cold and wet and then go in the house and freeze at night! Trying to help them keep as much energy as possible! Maybe tomorrow! argh!!! I'll be damned if they're gonna starve,,,not on my watch !!!
