Since you'll have both available I don't think you should see any problems. If you were using different styles of openings, then you might see some hesitation. But even that wouldn't last long in an established colony.

I added S&K tunnels to my BigBo's last year. I worried the martins may be afraid of the change and avoid them, so I left two with the old porches. The martins were all over the gourds with the new tunnels first and had the pine needles spun into nests. But when I looked in the two I had left with porches the needles were still as I had put them in. I went ahead and put the tunnels on those two and they were quickly claimed.

MJ,
No, it will not bother them and if anything, make them more attractive. It will make them safer and more moisture resistant. If you have never installed them before, make sure to remove the factory entrance faceplate before installing. There have been a couple folk's that did not realize this so, just making sure you do. I like to run a bead of caulk between the tunnel and gourd to make them waterproof.

While on this subject, I have not heard any comments about the new ultimate tunnels for the Bo s. They have built in wing entrapment guards!
Quess some manufacturers are listening.

Tom, I added some of the new ones last year with good results. I had already
converted my old ones the season before with metal straps.
I'll change out a few every year until they are all the new ones.

Mike, I'm not Scott but here is the answer to your question. There is an indentation where you are supposed to cut so that the face of the gourd is wide open to attach the tunnel. That's what the indentation is for and some people were attaching the tunnel first without removing that part. Hope I've been clear.
