They probably waited to ensure it was their martin(s). The door's open!

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

... or maybe they had to wait until they made the trip into town to use the wifi at MickeyD's... (I know about this because it happens to us when we go to the farm in ElCampo) could be any number of reasons for the delays that occur in the Scout Reports.

Wow. There was just a story this morning in the Wichita Eagle reporting migratory birds have already been spotted:

Now it's time to beg my husband to get our houses up. NOW. :-)

Martin Colony History: 1 gourd rack with 24 gourd capacity. 2018, my 11th year hosting martins.
18 pair in 2017.

Junco's are still here but there seems to be less of them. When there are no more Junco's, Spring is here!

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Yay Kansas! Enid OK too, which is not that far south of Pratt. Maybe my martins will get up in the air and ride this strong south wind home!

Lisa, thanks for posting that article. I enjoyed it.

My crickets arrived yesterday. My husband left the box on the living room floor. He said, I get to buy a new gun if you are purchasing crickets. Ha! Whatever.

Wait til he sees me someday buy a trendsetter house with 2" square pole and wench x 2. javascript:emoticon('')

I am an orthopedic office manager and yesterday morning two of my staff were in my office complaining about some other staff when out my window, that's behind them, I could have sworn I saw two martins gliding. They were too far away to confirm with my eye but the shape, the wings, the glide...it was all I could do to not jump up and completely not listen to them! No telling what they would have thought about me then.
