Feeding platform in use today

Second day of cool temps (mid 55s) and on & off drizzle. Most martins stayed in their gourds all day yesterday. Only a few used the B&B feeder for meals of crickets.

Today, more of the same, only I'm seeing more martins use the feeder. Hopefully they will also get some weather breaks today so they can feed, because tomorrow will not be much better than today.

On the plus side, I noticed the female that uses the feeder most often is banded, and one of those bands is yellow - that tells us she was one of the birds that wore a geolocator two years ago. I think she's in the same gourd, too.

We got lucky and had break in weather in NE Texas yesterday and the martins had a good afternoon of feeding. So far this morning no rain yet and they are active an out feeding.

That is about the same thing we had here in McKinney. Yesterday afternoon the weather was actually pretty nice, even the sun came out for about an hour, hopefully they were able to feed. And then, this morning it was about 45-50 degrees with little or no wind so I hope they were able to feed. I have never been sure if they can find insects in 45-50 degree weather, If anybody has an opinion on this please chime in.
Monday will be close to 80. Texas weather-gotta love it.

I am no expert but this is my opinion from growing up doing alot of fishing. As long as water temperature of your area ponds and lakes are not to cold there will be bugs around them. Most lakes and ponds in our area are above 50 degrees and alot of the power plant lakes water temperatures are up in the 60's and higher espcially at the hot water discharges.
