You folks at the PMCA are just right on. I was supposed to have babies today and I have babies today! 5 out of 6 eggs so far. ASY/ASY parents. They are so freakin cute! They look so tiny but yet big for the egg they came out of. Hungry little guys, mouth up and they tried to get me to feed them. My next nest hatches...tomorrow! Good times.

Good job Deb. I presume you use the prognosticator. Isn't it a wonderful tool? It's pretty much right on most of the time.

Hope the mamas can keep the babies warm. It's been cool here lately and guess cool out there. My babies start hatching on the 4th and I hope it warms up a bit. Got to 66 today. Into the low 50's tonight.

Good luck with your babies.

Congrats on the hatchlings. I hope all goes well for them and you. Don't sling anything out of joint with all that dancing! You just get me more excited for next weekend!

I will. Tonight the martins and I watched the chimney swifts. It was dusk and the martins were hanging out on their porches. I was unloading groceries and finally paid attention to the swifts. They were swooping all around the house through the trees, swing out by the barn chattering the whole way. I stood back and watched for about twenty minutes. They would go about four feet above me. I assume they were bug hunting but sure looked like a celebration. Oh, and I am happy to report there are four or two pair. For the longest time I thought there was three. Maybe that is what the celebration is all about. The first pair are thinking, good now Louie won't hang around all the time. The yard light came on and as always the PM's were tucked in by then. Not the swifts. So animated tonight.

Awesome! Birdwatching gets in your blood, doesn't it? Teaches us to pause, and observe the natural world around us with our eyes and ears... And to LOOK UP! What a blessing an obsession can be!

Nice having birds hatch as predicted. Congratulations. It will be fun watching them spend more time around the colony and feeding them.

Dang straight Tony. Not much to do out here in the sticks, don't ya know?

Thanks everyone. Right when the babies come I have to work my tail off. Figures. I cannot believe I didn't check them yesterday or today. But I plan to do so tomorrow!

I need to go to bed. I get up at 3am to make a farmers market in Wichita tomorrow. Afterwards I plan to check out a large cliff swallow colony Dorn told me about. Oh yeah, need to take my binoculars.

Good night all and I am dropping my houses (weather permitting, supposed to rain) tomorrow afternoon. I just gotta know what else is going on out there.

It's quite the site.. be sure to take some photo's! best approach is on the NE side.. I bet the grass is quite tall now.. but it would be worth it.

Tall grass doesn't deter me. Stepping on a snake might. They cancelled market when I was at Kingman due to rain so I diverted to my parents in McPherson county. So now it will be next Wednesday. I did grab my camera though.

Great pictures, Deb! I love the first one - baby wanting food, Mom's trapped in the cavity getting her picture taken.  8)

Oh Deb, what a nice bunch of sweet pink babes! I did love the adorable first pic, but the second one really had me chuckling "go little mighty team, go!" Haha, wing tips over nestmates shoulders and all, you western KS folks sure have the "stuff"!! Hopefully my birds will get eggy with it soon! LOL I will be posting pink pix when you are posting fledglings! Hey it's all good when clad in purple feathers!! MB

DebA, One more thing... Is that mama the one that sat tight while you checked her eggs?

I know, Kathy...isn't it cute? Love their mouths wide open. Poor Mama with me bugging her.

Mary, that is not the same mother. It is a different one. They oughta know me but interesting. That is the third different mother that has stayed in during a nest check this year. Pretty cool.

Annie, I know I am. I hope they feel as lucky being here as I do having them.
