2017 - Full house for first time. 24 gourds all occupied. :-)
What is the best replacement rope to use? Nylon, poly, cotton? I've read braided polyester, but saw a couple of comments that it stretches quite a bit. We have a 12-pack Troyer Vertical Gourd system (about 2.5# x 12=30#) plus the weight of the racks, so I'm guessing 50# by the time nesting material, martins, etc. inside?? IDK, just a guess there. I looked on the PMCA Shopping link, but don't see any replacement rope, or specs for same. TS/big box have rope, but what kind???

Have had visitor every year 2014-24.
Two large trees removed in fall 2024 and moved T-14 to a more open location.
2025- 1 SY pair. Fledged 2.
2026- no pairs. One daily SYM here daily. Named him Riggs!
I use coated galvanized wire rope on my home made gourd rack. It stays flexible and although its only been there 1 year, it is like new 1/8 inch is plenty strong enough. I have larger uncoated wire that holds up the T-14. I bought a spool of it at an amish hardware store. We used the majority as a clothes line. It should last a long time and no worries about breaking.

2014, 1st year-a few lookers, no nests
2015-23. Visitors each year. But no pairs.
2024- most active year. 2-4 SY male’s hang out most days.
2025, 1 SY pair. 2 eggs, 2 fledged!! Other martins visited daily.
Still eliminating starlings and sparrows.

Hi Annie,
The PMCA store has replacement gourd rack ropes here:
https://www.purplemartin.org/shop/produ ... gr-system/
I'm pretty sure this is the same rope that's used on the rope equipped 6, 8, 12, and 24 unit Deluxe Gourd Racks.

Thanks all. I did get an email from PMCA with a link to replacement rope. Don't know how many pounds it's tested for. I simply "had" to get my gourds up yesterday, so went to TSply and bought some rope.
