Hello friends. I installed a trio 24 room castle at the local golf course. I was wondering if anyone knew how much distance there should be from the base of the house to the ground. I have mine at 13 feet and am thinking this may be too high to prevent wind damage. I called the manufacturer, Erva, and they weren't much help. I appreciate any help you could provide. Thank you very much.

ERVA is never much help. Such a good product run by a terrible company. Wish it was back in Griggsville.

Anyway. The height is a matter of surroundings. I have houses that are 8' from the ground.. but are out in the open. The lower you can go and still keep the colony the better on castles. I have never seen a pole a full height that has been around for 20 years that is not bent.

Thank you for the reply DornCounty. I totally agree with your opinion on Erva, they were actually quite rude on the phone when the rep tried to answer my question. The castle I bought is fantastic though and I am told will last for decades. I am trying to attract martins for the first time so I have the birdhouse a little bit higher which I have heard they like. When I do finally get them I will lower it to a height that will prevent wind damage. I do not want a bent pole. Thanks again for your help, it is greatly appreciated and is very helpful.
