Hi Art.art wrote:I was recently given a long neglected Trio Mini Castle with several triangular floors missing. Is there a source for replacement parts for this model? From the Trio company perhaps?
What your describing by several triangular floors missing, is characteristic if a Heath hexagonal house.
The floor pieces on the bottom floors of those houses, are susceptible to popping off - no doubt dumping any nest and egg/babies on the ground in the process.
The upper levels are held nicely in place by the tops of the door panels of the floors underneath.
The parts you're needing are indeed available from the manufacturer (and they're very cheap).
I can email you the website if you like.

- Martin Colony History: I have been exposed to purple martin sounds in utero when my mother went out to get my father away from his martin colony.
I played around the martin colony every summer and watched as my father maintained his colony. In the late 50's until the 70's he did not notice European Starlings in south Texas.
When old enough, I helped maintain his colony. My primary task was eliminating English House Sparrows with a 1956 Benjamin 317 .177 air rifle.
When I settled into my own home, I started my first colony with an original Trio Castle and Trio Grandpa. When I moved again, I did not put up any martin houses. Frustration with European Starlings in the Southeast US was overwhelming.
Found PMCA Forum and learned about modern enlarged compartments and SREHs.
Inherited my father's last martin house, a Trio Grandma, modified it to modern specifications and have had good results since then.
Matt,
I am so glad that you understood what Art needed.
I was scratching my head because a Trio PMC/TM Floor Section looks diamond shape when the floor is divided into the three separate floor sections.
I was all prepared to discuss the 827405 PMC/TM Floor Section which is available individually vs. the 827400 PMC/TM Center Floor or the 827401 PMC Bottom Floor.
I guess that the Heath House is commonly purchased as a beginner purple martin house but I find the Heath House too much trouble to modify for nest checks and double compartments.
I will spend hours repairing, restoring and modifying Trio/Nature House products but I don't have time to mess with Heath House products.
Mark.

As4498,
I have not heard in a long time about or ever seen in person a Trio-Wade TW-12 martin house system. And you have the house new in box!
Wait until Matt, Trio Jedi Master, hears about this.
In my opinion, that house is worth taking pictures of the house in its box, assembling, fixing to modern specs, and posting on this Forum for the rest of us to see. Very cool.
To answer your specific question, all of the pole system and winch conversion kit are available from the current manufacturer. Some of the specific parts for that house are no longer available but what you are lacking should be readily available.
Get that house up and ready for next season!

I would assume that with the house tube and winch/cable like a Trio Castle has, the house would be much quieter and smoother going up and down the pole.
I was surprised to find out that the TW-12 uses the larger 1 1/2" diameter (14 guage) pole like the Trio Castle. Nice!
That should make it more wind resistant. I doubt that the TW-12 is as heavy as a Trio Castle.
The parts you would need from ERVA are the CP24 Replacement Pole for PMC-24 and 975379 PMC Winch & Hardware Kit.
The parts will not be cheap but they will be worth the money.
Wait for Matt to confirm that the above parts are correct for a TW-12.
Matt,
Would you consider the TW-12 the top of the line rectangular house that Trio ever offered?

Thanks so much for your feedback. I had no idea what a treasure I have. I can't wait to assemble it this weekend to get a good look. The cardboard box has aged well and I will definitely get some pics of it and during assembly.

You are right on the money about the parts needed.
The replacement pole and winch for the TW-12 are the exact same as those for the PMC-24.
I agree as well Mark - the TW-12 "Wade" model was no doubt their top of the line, rectangular house.
Lots of neat, aesthetically appealing features - most notably the crossbuck ranch style rails, extra large decks (wider than other models), and a neat little functioning chimney, to help with cooling.
Not to mention carrying the name of Trio/Nature House founder, the late J.L. Wade, who did a lot to promote Purple Martins, including good Martin management.
As4498, I agree 100% with Mark - you definitely have a gem there.

Matt,
What years were the Trio-Wade Purple Martin Safety System made?
At least the TW-12 cannot accept the lanyard lock assembly. I have no use for that thing.
If you want something safe for a Trio/Nature House rectangular or square house that operates on the rope/pulley system. then get a winch conversion kit and install it instead of the simple rope/pulley.

It made it's debut in November of 1969.4th Gen Martin Fan wrote:Matt,

That I'm sure of.
Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure how long its manufacturing run lasted.
If I had to guess, I would say around 8 to 10 years - until the late 1970s.
Again, that's just a guess.
Wow. Thank you for all the information about this house. I had no clue that it's been in a box for 45 years. I am assembling it today and will post pictures from the box to final assembly and I will be ordering the post and winch that you recommended.
