Snake guard netting question.

Hi everyone. I never had problems with snakes but I intend to put bird netting guards this year. Is it better to put it above the pole guard or below? The reason I ask is because I'm concerned the martins might get tangled in it.

Above is better, in a nice puffball shape. Above is better because some snakes cannot get by the guard, will never make it up to the netting - meaning fewer snakes for you to remove.

Depends how tall the pole guard is. Mine was 4 feet tall PVC pipe, so my snake netting went at the top of the pole guard. I never had a problem with the Adult birds getting caught in it (it was only 4 feet off the ground), but I did have a baby somehow fall off the porch and get caught by the netting. It prevented the baby bird from falling all the way to the ground. I got it out of the netting safely, and had it back where it belongs without any injury.

I've also heard of people making snake netting traps on the ground around their housing. Like making a 6 foot circle fence around the pole with snake netting, like a small jail fence. Keeping the snakes from making it to the pole.

I put snake netting above my predator guard which is at 4' last year. Not much of a sample size but no issues here.
