Late season attracting after move
A mid August move out further in the country. Rather tough to pack up after establishing a small colony at the old house but rather promising to see numerous Martins at the new site. Many MANY birds visiting my 2 racks I placed in the yard. I am playing the dawnsong and daytime chatter. Knowing these are mostly fledglings from this yr hoping these birds remember my site. Seems they fly around the racks and test out the area for clear flightways and obstacles {all is extremely well here} and some entering the gourds. Almost like they are staking out the place Looks promising for next spring. Keeping our fingers crossed and our eyes to the skies until all things go quiet and they have migrated.

How far did you move, and did you leave any housing at the old location? I moved 10 miles away back in 2012 and the new owners who bought my place did not want to leave any housing up. At the time I had about 30 pair and I hoped the displaced martins would find my new location. I did set the housing up in the same orientation at me new place hoping this might help. At first I thought it worked as I had about 8 ASY martins show up and stay for about 4 days then they took off and I didn't see them again. I ended up building up a new colony thought but it took a few years to get established. If there is not a lot of housing up in your neck of the woods the odds the displaced martins will find your housing.
I went back by my old place several times the spring after I moved and as the martins would arrive they circled the yard for several day and would eventually take off. It was sad to see but I also assumed they were helping other landlord's in the area either build their numbers or start a new colony.

We moved about 30 kms away in the middle of the county (Essex). Not too many birds in the areas at my old site. neighborhood is getting built up and busy. I had 5 pair but new owners not into it. No worries about the small colony they can find new places surely. As for the new place (Gesto Ontario) seems like many birds around. first week here I rushed to get the poles and gourds up and now seeing masses of birds flying thru even to this day Sept 5'. Excited to see how things go come springtime.
