Sharpstown roost
I will be flying into Houston on Saturday and staying with a friend in the Sharpstown area. I am anxious to see the roost. How are the numbers? Have the birds started to disperse or are the numbers still growing?
Any information would be great.
sincerely

I was there Sunday, and then again Wednesday. There are so many birds there that it is impossible to tell about the numbers. You will enjoy seeing it!

Thanks for the information. I hope I can be there on Saturday night, (it depends on what my friend has planned for that night.) It would be great to meet other martin folks. From previous postings I assume that the best time to be there is around 7:45ish?

Ha! Sorry! I did go and met a few other martin lovers. I am sure they will post soon. I got a couple of interesting pics but they are too big to download for me to post and I haven't figured out how to resize yet.
The birds were unbelievable once again. MANY MANY more than the first time I went. It would be hard to say how many - a couple of us guessed a million (seriously). I think a couple of us said we would try to make it back before they leave for good hopefully.
Sorry you didn't get to make it!

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
Hi Lisa.
Here are three ways to resize photos so they will post on the Forum. I used the last one...
To resize it on Paint
You would first click the top right square button (looks like a dotted square) then on the left corner of your picture, click the mouse and drag it to the bottom right corner and make sure that in the dimensions you have all of the picture. Then let go of the button on the mouse and what you have selected to resize will be dotted around the edge. Then go to the bottom right corner and hover over it. Your cursor will now look like 2 black arrows connected together. Then click the mouse and drag it inwards to resize and when you get the size that is good for you, then let go and then save it.
Nice photos, Pete! I don't know what are all the different ways to resize a picture, but I'll tell you the way I do it. I find the picture on the computer. I don't actually click on it but go to the album that it's in and right click on the name. A box comes up with a list of things; I click on Zoner Conversion. In the convert box that comes up, I click on the Dimensions tab and make the number lower. I take my pictures in high quality, so the pixel size is something like 2288 x 1712. To size down the picture, I usually just click in the circle in front of where it says "640 x 480" or "800 x 600". Since each person has a 256 KB picture-posting limit, if I choose one of those sizes I mentioned, I can only post 2 or 3 pictures. Then if I want to post any more in another post, I have to go back and delete my old ones to make more room in my storage tank. It's really not hard to post pictures once you've done it a few times. It's just the fact of getting used to something new, but I know if you try it you'll get the hang of it. Just ask questions if you're not sure how to do it. I didn't used to know how to do it either. Try it sometime. It's not like your computer will blow up. Again, I really enjoyed your pictures, and thanks to Colleen and her daughter for helping out.

If you are using windows XP then its an easy process to size the pics for the web. Just highlight the photos you want to post and right click. Choose "send to" and choose "mail recipient." A pop up box should appear and ask you if you want to make your pictures smaller. Click this button and choose yes. Your mail window will pop up with the attched photos and all you have to do from here is to drag the resized photos your desktop. You now have pics that are small enough for the program and large enough to see. Just be sure to upload them from the desktop.
Hope this helps you and possibly others.
