Way to go Jeff! We had an old male show up here just north of Springfield on 3/18 and hang around for a couple of days with no company. He took off just before the snow and we have had no action since... Hopin this next wave of warmth and sun (after Sunday) will bring the migration our way! Good luc...

My wife says our guy hung around today till around 2 or so then took off. He came back alone at 7:10. I don't recall having just one bird at all last year, they came in bunches. It's kind of sad but on the other hand I would worry more if a flock had to ride out the snowstorm thats coming. He sure i...

At 7 tonight I was pointing out the beautiful blue birds perched atop my three new martin houses I just put up two days ago and boom, there he was! Swooping in from nowhere he spent a few minutes circling around and giving me the drive by chirping I've been so waiting for... Then he flew in and land...

Wow RD..... just WOW!!! I am incredibly impressed at your sticktoitivness... I mean wouldn't most sane people after say, 25 years of trying unsuccessfully to attract martins just give up? Not you! Wow... How rewarding it must be for you to see all of your hard work pay off. Big ups and congra...

Hey Chris! I live 10 miles north of Springfield, MO and our birds are just now leaving... On Sunday we saw 150+ birds sitting on a high wire behind the house and then poof.... Almost all gone. There is one lone re-nester that isn't scheduled to fledge her 5 babies for another week so they are ...

Back from the tornado!
I remember reading a forum topic concerning the changing of housing mid-season and it's possible repercussions. I recently found myself facing this issue and thought I'd share my results (so far anyway)... On Friday, 5/8 our site was hit by a tornado here in SW Missouri. Although it was only...

We kept pretty good records after becoming educated but missed tracking arrival dates for both scouts and subbies. This year we...

2008 Final Results for Bill & Kelley
Thanks to the information learned from the great posters to this forum we had a pretty darned good year in '08. It's our 3rd year of putting Martin houses up but our 1st year as "landlords". We ended up with 14 nesting pairs who laid 68 eggs. 65 of those hatched successfully and all but tw...

I've been wondering why I still have 30 or more birds hanging around as my last nest fledged about the 2nd. Or so I thought  I was out in the yard messing around just now and I saw a bird on the ground and as I went to check it out I realized it was a nearly fledge martin that went running aw...

That's pretty cool Wyatt... You folks down south probably get quite a few passers through for the next few weeks from up here in the midwest and beyond. I was thinking it should pretty much be over here in Missouri but Kathy has some lookers today and I don't know what's happening to my birds.... As...
