Leave your decoys up, that way if a hawk hits it will hopefully be the decoy and give your martins a chance to get away. I leave mine up 2 on the gourd rack and 2 on house. I laugh at the martins landing beside them and start talking to them. Talk about 1 sided conversations lol. Now they even land ...

Mine do the same thing seems like they pick his and her gourds and rooms in the house. The pair that came in today were trying to pick 3 different rooms I think they decided, but they still went into different rooms. I am glad to know mine are not the only ones to do it.

I hope more will be coming. It looks like everyone has a mate. There is still room maybe more will come in after this cold front passes this evening.

I received another pair this morning, immediately looked in house and by afternoon had there room pick out. Woo Hoo...Patiently waited for 4 years had 3 pairs last year for the first time and now so far 5 pair hope there are more coming have plenty of room.

I have wax worms and meal worms left from a fishing trip...I know martins can be fed meal worms but can you feed them wax worms? Thanks for your help.

My martins go down the road to my neighbors martins and visit and the neighbors martins come and visit here then they will go back to their homes.

Don't give up, I waited 4 years, I added gourds also below my house. On May 5th,2009,a SY showed up then another one then by the end of 2 weeks I had 3 pair. This year I put the gourds on a rack and left the house beside it. My 3 pair came back on April 9th,2010 and all of the gourds are filled now ...

My beautiful pair came in April 9th just before we left for vacation. When I got back nest building is in progress...They were subies last year this year they are so beautiful. Hoping the other 2 pairs will make it..The babies from them last year I hope come back home...I am so excited, Good Luck to...

I finally got three pair last year...My site finally established. I bought decoys and used them. My question is now that I do have established site do I still use my decoys. I am still waiting and worrying about my 3 pairs cant wait to see them..Thanks to you all for taking care of them on there way.

I also thought they mated for life...That is what my father in law always told me so I believe old bird you are right.

yes James you are right about that...I have been trying for four years...Got a pair in May 14th and that female and male were the best realtors you can imagine....they brought in 3 or 4 more pair in about a weeks time....
So good luck on your first pair they can be your realtors now.

It has been wild and great watching one pair finally take my house and then another and then another....I was hoping for 4 years for one pair I may end up having a pair for every year I waited....They are now building nest and it so great to watch them...I can hardly do anything else but watch.....I...

New landlord here...my question is when the young fledge do they not come back to the house they were born in the next year.
Also, I just got martins last week they will still have time to nest and lay eggs this year right?
