Tammy,

Congratulations on becoming a new landlord, all the animals and wildlife we care for become like children to us. Yours are very lucky to have you.

Adrian,

What an amazing creature and thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures. I wonder if these birds are "picked on" or rejected by other Martins?

Tammy,

Your comments remind me of my neighbor (who I think the world of) when we talk about birds, anytime I say redbird, under his breath he says "cardinal". :)

Good luck Tammy, I don't have Martins yet but have learned so much from this forum that I think I am ready when a pair decides to stay. As it was mentioned earlier, I advise you to watch for tree swallows or bluebirds that will want to build in your Martin housing. I have to keep the little tree swa...

Beautiful Martin House on Amish PBS Special

I am watching a PBS show called " The Amish:American Experience" and they just showed an Amish farm with a very nice Purple Martin house with gourds underneath. It was a very nice set up. I'm sure it was made by the homeowner, they are excellent woodworkers.

Hello Friends! Because I am a want to be landlord, I cannot let the Tree Swallows nest in my Martin gourds which they so desperately want to do every year (a very common problem I have learned from the forum). This year I placed a bird house a few feet from my established bluebird house which is clo...

Linda,

I could not agree with you more, I have about five birdbaths around here and the birds love them and need them so desperately especially this time of year. It is inexpensive and you will be rewarded with all types of birds that love to bathe and drink. Happy 4th to all.

Hey David!

Bluebirds love to bathe so hopefully you have a birdbath. I have been lucky enough to have these birds for years and they are a joy to have. They love mealworms so if you can, place some in a small dish on their house when the babies hatch. Best of luck to you.
