stroll at the Stoll's
That was a very informative note from you, I can picture a little bit of what it was like now. Sounds like it was a lot of fun, and so Gobbler T was there too, now I'm really sorry I missed it. I think the idea of moving the date from June to sometime in May is as good one. Maybe around the middle o...

martin festival at the Stolls
Thanks for the reply Stretch; I'll be looking forward to seeing those pictures and reading any comments you might have. Several more on here will want to know more about your visit too. Thanks again, D.J.

Unlucky spring.
For the first time in 3 or 4 years I didn't even have a single martin land at my site, and only heard one or 2 fly over. Pretty disappointing for I know it's over here for another year. I'm pretty sure the population is down, and around here it was a strange and very unpredictable spring, weather wi...

Did any of us get to go?
Wondering if someone might could give us a little rundown on the Martin Fest in Finger Tenn. this past (Father's Day) weekend. Wanted to go but didn't get to. Did you enjoy it overall, were there things that the vendors showed that might be worthwhile or new, was there any shade at all. Will you be ...

2 nestes
I did have that happen a few years ago, double nests, she laid 3 eggs in each nest and they raised those in the lucky compartment. I enjoy your post. Thanks.

DEAR BEGGING, I WOULD OFFER, NOT A FEW, BUT SEVERAL ROUND HOLES, IF NOT ALL, UNTILL YOU GET STARTED. WHY MAKE IT HARDER FOR THEM TO GET IN FOR A LOOK AROUND. YOU MAY HAVE MORE OF A PROBLEM WITH STARLINGS, BUT YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO GET MARTINS TOO, IN MY OPINION. YOU "CAN" DEAL WITH S...

shooting at will
Hey Gobbler T, that Will must be a bad sort of fellow; everybody wants to shoot at him. Hope he doesn't come around here. Meanwhile I still haven't seen any martins at my house; there's a snow on the ground right now and 36 degrees. Strange spring here in E. Tenn. Good Luck, once more to all.

Gobbler T's mystery solved.
sg45 a beautiful lay-out, very impressive. If you see this picture Mr. T, you will understand why you don't have any martins at your site. This landlord probably has 95% of the martins in the state of Miss. at his/her site.

Tree Swallows
Dave, I have the same problem every year too. The trees fight with everything that comes by, and run off any martins that stop to look. I think that when your martin colony gets big enough you won't have this problem anymore. If you do find a solution in the mean time please let me know. Wannabe in ...

warmers
D'nese, glad you reminded me of those hand warmers; good idea. I don't have a colony that I can call my own, but I do have a mentee that had 8 pairs last year. Also I have a small colony at my 92 year old Dad's place, that I look after. I know about where you are located; I talked to a fellow about ...

John, thanks for your reply re. early martins; yes they do, do it every year it seems. Where is the M. fest that you referred to and when. Might try to go also. Good luck to you Mizzuens too. Thanks again.

the good, the bad, and more
I just got a call from a long time established land lord, about 3 air miles from me. She said they had 2 martins make landings yesterday. Can't call this an official sighting, but she does not make false reports, so I know they are here. I just can't believe they are here so early. Way too early for...

I guess, Gobbler T, that maybe one puts the mirrors around on the sides of the condo type housing to give the impression that this site is being used and must be a good place to move into. I'll try just about anything. By the way good luck in your mentorship endeavors. Any martins in your area yet, ...

smoke and mirrors
O.K. just mirrors. Could someone tell me if mirrors are used to help attract our birds, and just how, perhaps to do it. Thanks. Also, yesterday Feb. 25th I caught my first starling of the year in my repeating trap. I thought, very good, it's still working, but before I had a chance to remove the sta...

To Frank in Ashland City, TN. Congratulations on those new arrivals; I didn't think there would be any in Tenn. untill a couple of more weeks. I'm in East Tenn., near Crossville. Where is Ashland? Thanks, D.J.

bird call question
THanks 85 for for your reply and the good information as to the starling calls. And I do indeed wish you good luck in getting martins this year; let us know how you doing, visits overnighters and so forth. Thanks again, Three. P.S., I wish it had been a quail, but was pretty sure it wasn't; don't kn...

Bird Call Quetion
I know this is a little off course from out usual topics, but hope to hear from someone on this question. Yesterday I heard what sounded exactly like a male Bob White quail calling. Twice I heard it in a 2 hour period, heard it plainly and close. I have not seen any quail around here in 25 years or ...

the eternal quest
D'nese; There is a tree deal, but it's pretty open really. Site is on the end of a dock with open water all around. Mostly all around. The tree leans out toward the sun and the housing and should be topped. I thought I had a man to do it but that hasn't worked out yet. I'm still going to do it thoug...
